On illumos, mkdir(2) of an entry in an autofs indirect map such as the default /home returns ENOSYS ("Operation not applicable") instead of EEXIST, so since 10.6p1 every user with an automounted home gets sshd-session[...]: error: mkdir_path: mkdir("/home/klausz"): Operation not applicable sshd-session[...]: error: agent_listener_user: failed to create agent socket parent directory and no SSH_AUTH_SOCK. ssh-agent(1) started by such a user fails the same way, as does sftp "lmkdir -p". 10.5 only created ~/.ssh and ~/.ssh/agent and was not affected. Add 1007-mkdir-path-autofs-existing-dirs.patch: remember a non-EEXIST mkdir error, open the component as a directory anyway and only fail with the original mkdir error if that fails too. Same for the non-openat fallback via stat(2). To be submitted upstream. Tested on OpenIndiana Hipster 2026.04 with a lofs-automounted /home/sshtest: unpatched 10.6p1 logs the errors above on "ssh -A" and the session has no agent; with this patch the socket is created under ~/.ssh/agent (0700) and "ssh-add -l" lists the forwarded key.
